For those of us who were battling Lyndon Johnson's ESEA '65 and its abominable "innovative" sex ed and social studies' "life adjustment" public school programs, Erica Carle's THE HATE FACTORY was a God-send. We bought it up in bulk orders in 1972 and handed it out to the uninitiated parents who didn't have a clue as to why their kids' schools had changed from centers of traditional education to psycho-social, mental "health" clinics. Back then, at a time when all history, geography and literature programs were being rolled into one core Social Studies (or Social Science) subject, Erica began her research into the background of Sociology. What she found was truly amazing and took her to its beginnings in France's so-called Enlightenment Period and the radical writers of that era. How one 19th Century philosopher in Europe had such a disastrous influence onf 20th Century American schools is a story every modern-day parent should read.
